Revealing the heart of God through generosity and compassion is a spiritual principle that Amanda Miah whole-heartedly believes in. In her role with Tearfund, she values collaborating with her colleagues in their shared commitment to follow Jesus where the need is greatest, a purpose that has been a consistent driver for her.
In her second year of college, Amanda went to India where she spent time at Mother Theresa’s orphanage and visited several local churches in rural communities. This defining time in Amanda’s life created a desire to serve the vulnerable in a greater way. She quickly dropped her major in history, deciding instead to earn a Bachelor’s degree in globalization and international affairs from Eastern Kentucky University. Upon graduating, she joined Youth with a Mission. After six months in Belize and the Philippines, Amanda visited England where she met her husband and lived for five years.
During that time, she held various communications and management roles within the nonprofit sector. Upon learning about Tearfund in the UK, she felt a deep connection to the organization’s values and mission and joined them in 2016. Then, after Tearfund USA was formed, she signed on to be their Content Manager. Currently, she is working towards a Masters in Ethical Leadership at Thomas More University and now fills the role of Strategic Initiatives Manager.
Amanda lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband and son. Her step-daughter attends a university in Canterbury. They lead a small church and are invested in her city’s urban community.
