“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
We are all part of the global community, and we are facing a challenging global issue – climate change. We hear a lot about it, although we don’t always see it in our own lives. But the people Tearfund works with in countries around the world are having their lives turned upside down by it.
When we encounter those who’ve failed to grow food this year, or those who’ve been forced to leave their homelands because of climate shocks, we’re reminded that climate change is affecting people living in poverty now.
As a Christ-centered development organization, one of our goals is to encourage and equip Christians to connect with issues like climate change as an expression of love for those in poverty.
The sermon was on the Good Samaritan – putting faith into action – and so they included a slot celebrating Tearfund’s 50th birthday with our short jubilee film.
For us, it means drawing attention to the people and places affected by climate change because, together, we can encourage decision-makers to shift to clean energy and tackle climate change now.
Let’s also pray for those affected by climate change and for those working with them to find solutions.
