Chelsie Chan, Director of Foundations
To live out faith with courage and responsibility is a mandate that Chelsie Chan strives to embody. She brings a strong conviction for diversity and inclusion to Tearfund, and uses her voice to uplift those near and far.
With nearly 20 years of experience in the faith-based international development sector, Chelsie feels indebted to the local leaders from whom she has learned how to fight injustice, foster community engagement, and be “in it” for the long haul.
In 2007, she learned of Tearfund while serving as a liaison between church communities in the Twin Cities and locally-led Christian partners in Eastern DRC. She was amazed by the way Tearfund articulated biblical community development and honored Congolese staff.
Her experience in grant-writing, program development, and forging partnerships with Congolese organizations, gave her unique insights which she applied at World Vision USA for 5 years. There, she stewarded key church relationships and pioneered a public speaker program.
A natural collaborator, she has worked with national leaders across organizations including World Relief, World Vision International, The Justice Conference, Micah Challenge, Global Washington, The Accord Network, and many churches. Her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota is in Global Studies with an emphasis in Africa and Sustainable Agriculture. She received her MA in Organizational Leadership from Eastern University.
As the Director of Foundations, Chelsie is energized by building out the department through daily cross cultural engagement and establishing new relationships with supporters. Chelsie lives in Seattle, WA with her husband, Spencer, and their three spoiled dogs.
