Help the Local Church Promote Peace
On Saturday, June 11th, Christians gathered in Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo to transform weapons of war into tools of flourishing! Tearfund hosted a public peace rally featuring former child soldiers and survivors of conflict violence as they ‘beat the guns’ to make garden tools, asking leaders to support peace building and rehabilitation programs.
In addition to the peace rally, we have worked with our partners to launch agricultural training to teach farming skills to former child soldiers. This skill is key in helping them to support themselves, and find healing from trauma.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
-Isaiah 2:4
