Emily Sarmiento

Emily found vocation at the crossroads of faith and social action with Latin American immigrants to the USA. As a founding member of a Spanish-speaking church and outreach ministry, Emily became passionate about holistic mission and solutions to root causes of poverty and injustice.

 

Before joining Tearfund in 2020, Emily held various global leadership positions at Compassion International and Convoy of Hope, as well as regional roles with Enactus and Heifer International. She also served on the board of the Accord Network trade association for Christian relief and development in the USA. Currently, she serves on the Executive Steering Committee for the Americas Initiative of Duke Divinity’s Center for Reconciliation.

 

Emily holds a BS in International Management and Spanish and a certificate in K-12 Education from Missouri State. She also earned a MA in Organizational Leadership for International Development through a Latin American program of Eastern University. 

 

She lives with her husband, Diego, and their two children outside Denver, in rural Colorado.

 

Emily is an English and Spanish speaker.
