Tearfund USA appoints new Board Director, Dr. Rachel Lamb

September 15, 2021

Tearfund USA is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Board Director, Dr. Rachel Lamb. She brings to the Board seasoned experience in environmental policy and strategy.

Rachel currently serves as a Maryland Sea Grant State Science Policy Fellow with the Maryland Department of the Environment Climate Change Program. She earned her PhD in Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland College Park, where her research centered on the applications of NASA Carbon Monitoring System forest carbon science to advance strategic climate mitigation planning with co-benefits for biodiversity and human livelihoods.

President and CEO Emily Sarmiento says, “We wholeheartedly welcome Rachel as a Board Director at Tearfund USA. She brings exceptional professional perspective alongside prior governance experience that will be a tremendous asset in this season of the ministry’s development. With her extensive education and experience in climate advocacy, I am certain she will play a key role in the strategic oversight of Tearfund USA.”

In parallel with her research and work on U.S. climate and environmental policy, Rachel served in leadership roles with Young Evangelicals for Climate Action, the Evangelical Environmental Network, Au Sable Institute, and A Rocha to help Christians make stronger connections between their faith and action on climate change. Critical to this effort is helping others understand the fundamental injustices inherent in climate change’s causes and effects, and Rachel has dedicated much of her career to building bridges of connection that draw people in based on shared values. In 2015, she was named a White House Champion of Change for her leadership on climate action.

“I have long been encouraged by the work of Tearfund internationally to promote holistic solutions to intersectional environmental, social, and economic challenges. To engage in this work alongside Christ, with and as the global Church, is both a privilege and responsibility,” says Rachel.

Rachel’s appointment as Director follows the recent appointment of four others in May 2021, Darin Lamar Jones, Diego Forero, LaTashia Satterfield Ogunlana, and Mae Elise Cannon. Click here to see full bios and photos for all Directors.
